The 801E is a slim mini shotgun, hypercardioid condenser microphone designed for speech. The microphone element is a electret condenser, powered via the phantom power adapter which operates on 9-48V DC and terminates to a 3 pin male XLR connector. 

Although stated as a shotgun microphone, the 801e is more suited as a lectern microphone which uses an intereference tube, much like a shotgun, to yield a narrower polar pattern.
