SYDNEY:

Murray Tregonning, Managing Director

Fifty years in the TV & entertainment arts industry.  Commencing his career as a trainee in 1970. Apart from his involvement on Hey Hey It’s Saturday, he became Australia’s first Freelance TV Audio Operator in 1976 as well as a Freelance Film Sound Recordist, and through these experiences he gained great insight into the audio industry.  An entrepreneur to the sound rental and sales industry and a pioneer in many fields of communication and production audio.  It can truly be said that Murray has changed the face of the production sound industry in not only Australia but Internationally.

Warrick Sainsbury, Operations Manager, MatchCom Referee Communication Systems

Warrick joined us in 2004 from a background in broadcast television audio at ATN 7 Sydney for 10 years.  He is responsible for managing all our various Referee Communication Systems for the National Rugby League (NRL), New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), Football Federation Australia (FFA), New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL), Queensland Rugby League (QRL), and World Rugby.  He is a Communication Specialist with extensive experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and management of fully integrated broadcast and communication systems for major events throughout Australia.  Warrick is also responsible for recruiting, training, rostering and allocating work to permanent technical staff and contractors.

Jacob Salmon, N.S.W Audio Rental Manager

Jacob joined MT&A in 2022, from a background of Music and Performing Arts, bringing his knowledge of Audio Equipment to the company. After working part-time alongside Murray, he soon became a full-time employee as the N.S.W Rental Manager and Audio Technician. This role sees Jacob working across many facets of the business, including Rentals, Sales, Testing Equipment, Technical Support and Customer Service.

MELBOURNE:

Callum Marshall, Victoria State General Manager - MatchCom, Rentals, Sales and Autocue

Callum joined MT&A in 2016 working as a part time casual while completing his university studies. Upon completing his Bachelors’ Degree in Audio Engineering in 2017 he joined MT&A full-time.  Based in our Melbourne office, he manages our National Prompting Operation as well Audio Rentals Manager.  He also works across all the other facets of the business including Sales, Technical Support, Engineering Design, Repairs and Sports Operations.

Oscar Petering, Melbourne Rental Assistant and MatchCom Operator

Joining MT&A in 2022 after completing a Degree in Audio Engineering at JMC Academy, Oscar has been working full time out of our Melbourne office as a Rental Technician, He is responsible for the delivery and setup of our Teleprompting and Audio equipment across the city, as well as the operation of our MatchCom Referee System in Victoria.

BRISBANE:

Christian Wylie, National Sales Manager and Queensland State General Manager

Christian joined MT&A in 2005 as NSW Audio Rental Manager after 10 years working as a location sound recordist and audio professional in the film & TV industry.  In 2007, he moved into the NSW Sales Manager Role and in 2010 made the move north to manage our Queensland office.  This role sees Christian working across all facets of the business including Sales, Marketing, Rentals and Sports Operations.

Murray Tregonning & Associates was founded in 1978.  Murray began his career in television as a trainee audio assistant at HSV 7 Melbourne in 1970.  He was head-hunted to the opposition television station GTV 9 in 1973, and began to make his name as the sound effects operator on the long running program, Hey Hey It’s Saturday for 22 years of its 28 year record run on Australian TV.  Murray while doing Hey Hey went freelance in 1976 and started to build the foundations of the company with the main goal of consulting and providing the latest and best in professional equipment to the TV broadcast industry.  Since 1978, MT&A has grown steadily to having main offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and New Zealand.

 

Throughout it’s history, MT&A has strived to offer our clients the best advice on renting or purchasing anything related to audio recording, broadcasting, communications , tele-prompting and signal distribution.  This advice and service has extended to having active roles in many of our client’s projects.  As a result of this, we expanded our business to include technical project design and management.  Utilising the extensive experience of our staff of broadcast and entertainment professionals.  The great strength of MT&A’s people is our ability to offer creative solutions to our client’s challenges.  Whatever the project, we can assist with design and the ensuing co-ordination of technical solutions to turn ideas into reality.

ACETA (Australian Commercial & Entertainment Technologies Association) is the industry association for the commercial and entertainment technologies sector. It represents and promotes the common interests of and provides a united voice for the industry and its members in the area of audio, lighting, vision, staging, communications and control equipment, and the associated technology.

In November 2019 ACETA conducted an interview with Murray for their “Archive of Excellence” series. - Murray Tregonning ‘A Remarkable Career’.  The interview covered the first 35 years of Murray’s career.   Murray’s interview followed the first two interviews with two of the industry’s legends Roger Savage and the late Colin Stevenson.
