Over the last 40 years of operating a sound rental company, Murray Tregonning has been the butt of many jokes from his associates, work colleagues and employees. They claim he's a hoarder of many things including, of course, old sound equipment which he has collected throughout his 50 year career.
Prompted by many enquiries from Props Departments and Art Directors on Film & TV Production, looking for authentic sound gear from various decades, MT&A Rentals will now have a new category, “Film & TV Production Props” of equipment from the 1960’s period onwards, for TV and Film productions that require audio props. MT&A have a great collection of various audio gear from the 1960’s onwards, especially for TV News, Production Crews, Radio and TV station scenes.
MICROPHONES
The Electro-Voice 635A is a handheld interview microphone designed for exacting professional applications such as film production, recording, broadcasting, and the more demanding PA applications. It is a rugged, compact omnidirectional dynamic microphone popular in the TV news industry and a very popular microphone for vocals on TV in the 1970’s
The EV 635A mic has high output level, low sensitivity to mechanical shock, and features a diaphragm which permits very smooth response over a wide frequency range. The diaphragm withstands humidity and temperature extremes, corrosive effects of salt air, and severe mechanical shocks.
The MXL R77 is a classic ribbon microphone that delivers natural sound and stunning realism to vocal and instrument recordings. Powerful and versatile, the R77 incorporates a Figure-8 polar pattern for extended sweet spots as well as a 1.8-micron aluminum ribbon for smooth lows and natural highs. Manufactured with premium materials, the R77 performs beautifully on vocals, acoustic instruments, strings, horns and can handle the most demanding broadcast applications.
The Shure 565SD-LC Classic Unisphere Vocal Microphone is a cardioid dynamic microphone designed for use in public auditoriums, houses of worship, convention halls, and schools. The mic features a selectable dual-impedance operation and comes connected in low-impedance out of the box. It offers a wind and pop filter for vocals, a durable, wire-mesh front grille, and a silent, lockable On/Off switch.
The Shure Beta 57A is a dynamic instrument microphone that provides high gain before feedback in demanding environments. It features a steel mesh grille for durability, shock mount to minimize transmission of unwanted noise, and a neodymium magnet for high signal-to-noise ratio.
The Shure Beta58A is a vocal microphone that provides a brightened midrange and bass roll-off with frequency response to control proximity effect, a steel mesh grille for durability, a shock mount for low unwanted noise, and a neodymium magnet for high signal-to-noise ratio.
The Shure Beta 87 is a vocal microphone that provides warm, accurate sound. It features high SPL capability and controlled low-frequency roll-off to compensate for proximity effect. Provides low susceptibility to RFI and a shock-mount system to absorb shocks and handling noise.

The Model 2 Boom and the Model 3 Base is J.L. Fisher’s smallest Studio Microphone Boom. This JL Fisher Model 2 Boom received the 1990 /91 The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development
This telescopic Boom is quiet, smooth, safe and easy to use on location, feature films, television and video productions. The Model 2 /3 Boom's compact size and features enable the boom operator to position the microphone in confined areas.
We have 3 or these amazing Model 2/3 Boom in our rental stock. The first was purchased brand new in the early 80’s. The 2nd has quite a history as it was “Location Boom 123” from the 20th Century back lot in Hollywood, which we purchased and import to Australia in the early 1990’s. It came complete with a mounted ashtray. The 3rd boom, is ex Channel 10 Melbourne.
This boom comes with a large road case for freighting if necessary.

Crown Audio CM-700 Cardioid Condenser Microphone has a very smooth, wide-range frequency response which gives it a natural sound. It preserves the delicate timbre of acoustic instruments, yet it can reproduce all the power of a pipe organ. The off-axis response is also smooth, so any leakage picked up has little coloration.
Because of its cardioid pickup pattern, the CM-700 reduces background noise, room reverb and feedback. The cardioid pattern is uniform with frequency. Self-noise is very low, permitting clean, noise-free recordings. The mic can handle extremely loud sounds without distortion. It is protected against static and RFI. The output is balanced, low impedance, which allows long cable runs without hum pickup or high-frequency loss. Powering is by 12- 48V phantom power.
Several audiophile touches enhance the mic's pristine sound quality: an ultralight diaphragm, humbucking transformer, polycarbonate capacitors and a gold-plated 3- pin connector. The CM-700 has a bass-tilt switch with three positions: flat, low-cut and roll-off. An included 2-stage foam pop filter softens breath pops, and a foam windscreen reduces wind noise outdoors.
